What It Looks Like In Practice.

Illustrative examples. Composite scenarios, not real participants.

A man in his forties with an acquired brain injury living in his own unit, three months out of custody. Two hours each morning and two each evening. The morning shift exists because his medication has to be taken with food and it was not being. The evening shift exists because the hours between six and ten are when things used to go wrong.

A woman in an FDSQ home with active overnight support, in the first eight weeks of a forensic order. Overnight is active rather than sleepover because her sleep is broken and the pattern before a difficult day is visible at 3am if someone is awake to see it.

Why This Matters Here.

Most placements do not fail because of a dramatic incident. They fail because medication stopped being taken, or rent was not paid, or nobody was awake at the hour when things get difficult.

In home support is where the routine that holds a placement together gets built. It is also where the earliest signals appear, days before anything becomes an incident report, and where a trained worker says something in time for it to matter.

Every worker completes the two week induction before their first shift, and every worker delivering a high intensity support is signed off individually by our Nurse Consultant.
